Art book with special binding
Objectives
To produce a carefully crafted edition of Darkness Under the Sun by author Andreea Petrache, combining a contemporary editorial design with materials and finishes that enhance the quality of the publication.
The project also required a binding solution that would allow the book to open completely flat, improving the reading experience while ensuring the book’s durability.
The result is an edition where printing, materials, binding and finishing work together to enhance the graphic concept and turn the book into a carefully crafted editorial experience down to the very last detail.
Project delivered
We produced an 80-page book printed in four-colour process on 150 gsm Creator Silk paper, selected for its smooth feel and excellent image reproduction.
The cover was produced using 350 gsm semi-matte coated paper with a matte scratch-resistant lamination, providing protection and preventing fingerprint marks.
The finishing was completed with an elegant gloss gold stamping, creating a sophisticated contrast with the understated design.
Otabind binding was a key element of the project: it allows the book to open completely flat (lay-flat) without putting pressure on or breaking the spine, making reading more comfortable and enhancing the overall user experience.
